1983 Gibson Flying V Heritage Reissue, Korina + OHSCDescription
Excellent Korina Gibson Flying V Reissue from 1983 in superb original condition throughout. Part of the highly sought after run of Heritage Reissues released in 1982 this was the first time Gibson had produced a Flying V in Korina since the extremely rare first-generation run of the 1950’s.
Produced in very low numbers they were a comparatively accurate reissue, right down to the Korina body and neck dot inlayed rosewood fingerboard, gold hardware throughout, 2 PAF humbucker pickups, body-through stringing with Tune-o-matic bridge and V shaped Anchor plate and the original style headstock with 17° angle. The run continued intro 1984 Now 40 years old, the guitar is a fantastic example in wonderful original condition. The finish is clean throughout with the Antique Natural clear coat highlighting the grain perfectly. The headstock is crisp with no marks to the edges, the front displays the raised plastic Gibson logo and the reverse a low C004 ink stamped serial number.
The three piece Korina neck meets the body at the 21st fret just like the original guitars from ’58 and is topped with an unbound Rosewood fingerboard with dot position markers. The guitar retains its original nut and frets. The hardware is gold plated, plating is still bright throughout and shows very little rub through or wear. Tuners are Kluson Deluxe Style with keystone buttons. The Bridge is a no-wire Patent Tune-o-Matic with plated saddles.
Plastics are in equally good condition with the black, wide bevel pickguard, truss rod cover and bonnet knobs mirroring the type used in ’58. The pickups are a pair of Tim Shaw Humbuckers with 153 and 154 ink codes. Described in the Gibson Publicity sheet as Pat. Appl. For humbucking pickups these highly regarded pickups were Gibsons earliest attempt at reissuing the original 50’s PAF designed by pickup guru Tim Shaw. Pot source codes are solder obscured but everything looks clean and untouched under the hood. The guitar is a great player, featherweight at 6.5lbs with a lively resonant acoustic voice. The V shape and Korina wood combination offer something different tonally with a sweet, high end sparkle to the acoustic and amplified voice. The pickups measure 7.05k in the neck and 7.13K in the bridge, an addictive guitar to play it offers great tones wether clean, edge-of-break-up of fully broke up. The neck is a medium C profile with unrestricted access to the fret board. The nut measures a comfortable 43.33mm with 1st and 12th fret depth measurements at 22.15 and 25.44mm. A rare instrument that ticks all the boxes wether for player or collector alike. The guitar comes with its original Gibson branded black case.
