1968 Fender Jaguar, Black

Description

A seriously cool, rare, factory black finish Jaguar with matching headstock. Having clearly been a working guitar for much if it's life, this one has developed the kind of wear and patina the Custom Shop can only dream of! Its hard to imagine a cooler looking example. By this point the Jaguar had fully transitioned into its block-and-binding era which looks perfect with the black finish.

The alder body wears its years honestly, with plenty of visual character that tells you this has been a working guitar throughout its life. It’s clearly been played, gigged, and enjoyed, and it wears those battle scars very well. The black finish has aged beautifully, complemented by a nicely discoloured white guard.

The maple neck with bound rosewood fingerboard and block inlays is dated Feb 1968 carved into a very comfortable medium C profile. The guitar has been refretted and it feels great to play.

The correct grey-bottom pickups deliver exactly what you want from a late-’60s Jaguar: bright, percussive attack, plenty of clarity, and that unmistakable offset snap that cuts effortlessly through a mix. The pots are correct, the blue/yellow wiring remains in place, caps are also correct with the input jack having been replaced along with some wiring.

Additional routing has been carried out in the trem cavity to accommodate a Mastery trem, and there have been multiple strap button holes drilled over time.

In short, this is a rare custom-colour, matching-headstock Jaguar that looks superb and is a joy to play. It has lived a life, and it delivers everything you’d hope for from a late-’60s Fender player grade offset. A great choice for someone looking for a rare vintage Jaguar with character in spades and no fear of putting it straight back to work.

Non-original hard case included.
