1964 Fender Precision Bass, Stripped

Description

A very cool 1964 Fender Precision Bass, with a stripped natural “hippie” finish and bags of player-grade character.

This is very much a vibey, no-nonsense, players' P-Bass. The stripped finish gives it a really nice worn-in look, showing off the body grain and giving the bass a proper road-worn feel. With its late L-series serial number, larger transition logo decal, rosewood fingerboard and clay dot inlays, it still carries plenty of desirable pre-CBS features.

The neck is dated APR 64 and has a big, wide feel in the hand. It measures 43.8mm at the nut, with a depth of 20.8mm at the 1st fret and 24.8mm at the 12th. The back of the neck has a silky smooth feel and may also have been stripped, making it a very easy and enjoyable bass to play.

Electrically, the bass has later grey-bottom pickups and later CTS pots dating to 1973. Tonally, it has plenty of classic P-Bass punch: strong fundamental, woody attack and the kind of direct, rounded midrange that sits effortlessly in a mix. It feels lively, responsive and full of personality.

All in all, a great-looking player-grade 1964 Precision Bass with a stripped natural finish, clay dot neck, big comfortable feel and loads of mojo. Pre-CBS, player-grade vintage at it's best!
