1969 Gibson Les Paul Custom, Black

Description

Here we have a nice example of an early/mid 'transitional' 1969 Gibson Les Paul Custom, complete with its original yellow lined, hardshell case. This guitar is in very good overall condition, offering an exceptional playing experience with lots of vintage character.

The Les Paul Custom is renowned for its luxurious appointments and exceptional craftsmanship, and this 1969 model is no exception. It features a solid one piece mahogany body with a maple cap and stunning black finish, complemented by gold hardware and two unmolested Pat Number pickups that offer a wide range of tonal options.

This particular Les Paul Custom is part of the middle series with transitional tenon, three-piece neck and one piece body. The transitional tenon was introduced during 1969 and served as a design change between the earlier long tenon and later short tenon. There is no volute and no 'Made in USA' of course.

The overall condition is good with the usual dings to be expected from a guitar that has been played. It has had different tuners at some point and the back of the headstock has been oversprayed to cover the screw holes left by these. Correct waffle back tuners are now on there.

The gold hardware shows some slight tarnishing, adding to the guitar's vintage charm. All of the guitar's original components are there but it is currently fitted with a Nashville bridge with the original tune'o'matic in the case. It has had a refret with slightly larger frets and a new nut.

Both pickups are 1969 Pat Number pickups and have never had the covers removed, both read healthy and balanced at 8.2k and 8.4k. The two visible pot code date to week 2 of 1969 and it is an 800 serial number which is just about legible under the overspray.

Late sixties Les Paul Customs are a must-have for any collector or guitarist looking for a top of the line vintage Les Paul without the 50s price tag. This is a nice example with a couple of changes to keep the price down. We do not think you will be disappointed!
