1948 Gibson ES-300 N Nr. MINT + OHSC

Description

Debuting as Gibson’s premier guitar in 1940, the ES-300 went from giant diagonal pickups to the single and then double p90s before the decade was out. Post war examples are more common with this one from 1948 exhibiting the all new Gibson logo as the company moved towards the new decade. Other features include the f hole Kluson tailpiece, a unique feature to this model and only seen for a few months in 1947/48. This model would also be the last to feature open gear tuners and a bound pickguard.
Stunning, time capsule example, this ES-300 is in excellent condition. Subtly flamed top and back with some more interesting sides showcased wonderfly by the natural finish that only shows the slightest bit of fading. This guitar has been well cared for, there is no doubt.
The neck too is in excellent condition with some slight checking to the back. The fretboard and frets are in great shape with plenty of life left in them. Headstock shows very light signs of wear, fitted with its correct Kluson open gear tuners.
Plastics are correct. The bound pickguard is in good condition as is the pickup cover and period specific barrel knobs
Hardware is in excellent shape with the f hole Kluson tailpiece being quite the star.
The electrics look to be all original. The P90 does not seem to have been rewound.
The guitar comes with its correct brown Lifton hardshell case
Tonally, this guitar is quite lively. As you’d expect, it’s loud acoustically, exhibiting a pleasing woody tone which comes across when amplified. The P90 is the perfect compliment, warm with the right amount of grit.
If this guitar could talk… A killer example looking for a new home.
