1964 Gibson EB-2, Sunburst

Description

Introduced alongside the ES-335 in 1959, the EB-2 was touted as "Gibson's biggest bass invention" and stayed in the catalogue until 1972 with a brief hiatus in 1963.
This is a stunning example, the finish hasn't faded at all. There are a few minor knocks but nothing substantial. The back is in great shape and shows very little damage
The neck too is in great shape with again a few minor bumps but nothing substantial. The fretboard is wear free and the original frets have plenty of life left in them. There are no signs of breaks or resets.
Hardware and plastics are in good condition with no sign of corrosion or warping.
Electrically everything looks correct though the switch has been replaced and some solder joints corrected.
This bass has a phenomenal tone, solid and full and not at all wooly as you might expect. The ‘baritone’ switch is very useful, removing enough low end whilst retaining the intrinsic tone of the bass. The 30” scale stops it from being neck heavy.
You won't find many of these in this condition, a truly iconic tone and surely a must have for any collection.
