2023 Fender Mike McCready Signature Stratocaster, Aged Sunburst

Description

A very cool Fender Mike McCready Signature Stratocaster, finished in heavily aged 3-Color Sunburst and based closely on the Pearl Jam guitarist’s well-used 1960 Strat.

Built in Fender’s Ensenada factory in Mexico, this model followed the limited Custom Shop McCready Strat and was designed to offer the same basic look and feel in a more accessible package. The alder body is finished in Road Worn nitrocellulose lacquer, recreating the extensive wear found on Mike’s original guitar after decades of use. The result is a proper road-beaten Strat look straight from the factory rather than something that needs to be treated too carefully.

The maple neck has a slim early-’60s style C profile with a slab rosewood fingerboard, 9.5” radius and 21 Jescar medium-vintage frets. It keeps the vintage feel of McCready’s original while the flatter radius makes it a little easier for bends and general playing than a strict 7.25” reissue. The bone nut is 42mm wide and Mike’s signature appears on the rear of the headstock.

A set of three Custom Mike McCready ’60s Strat single coils were developed specifically for the model, voiced around the pickups in his original 1960 guitar. Controls are the familiar master volume and two tones with a 5-way selector, although Fender also added a treble-bleed circuit to help retain clarity as the volume is rolled back. The pickups have plenty of classic Strat snap and chime, with the hollow in-between sounds and clear top end that suit McCready’s blues-influenced style particularly well.

Hardware is suitably traditional, with Fender vintage-style tuners and a six-point synchronized tremolo using bent-steel saddles and a cold-rolled steel block. A mint green 3-ply guard and aged white plastics complete the early-’60s look.

All in all, this is a very well-specced Road Worn Strat even without the Pearl Jam connection. The slab rosewood board, slim neck, custom pickups and nitro finish make it a very enjoyable player, while the distinctive factory ageing gives it plenty of character from day one.

Complete with its original Fender Deluxe brown hard shell case. It has added straplocks with the original buttons included.
