1966 Gibson J-50, Natural

Description

A very clean 1969 Gibson J-50, offering the classic round-shouldered late-’60s Gibson look and a sound!

This is a clean and original example overall, with a tight grained spruce top, mahogany back and sides, slim single-piece mahogany neck, correct rosewood bridge and original adjustable plastic saddle. There is some light lacquer checking, but overall it presents very well, with good geometry and excellent playability.

The neck is slim and comfortable, measuring 39.5mm at the nut, with a depth of 20.6mm at the 1st fret and 24.8mm at the 9th. The original frets and nut remain in place, and the guitar plays well, with action at the 12th fret measuring 2.5mm on the bass side and 2mm on the treble.

Hardware includes the correct chrome open-back tuners, and the guitar retains its correct larger pickguard. The adjustable bridge setup is a key part of the sound, giving these guitars a distinctive compression and attack that sets them apart from earlier fixed-saddle models.

Tonally, it has that classic late ’60s Gibson 'jangle' with a slightly compressed response from the adjustable saddle and a really appealing percussive quality, making it particularly good for strumming, rootsy rhythm work and singer-songwriter playing.

A clean, original and great-sounding 1969 Gibson J-50 with plenty of late-’60s character, good playability and that distinctive adjustable-saddle Gibson voice.
