1967 Guild Duane Eddy DE-500 + OHSC

Description

An incredible, top of the line, rare, Guild Duane Eddy DE-500. Introduced in 1962 this was a high spec model in Guild's range after they took on the endorsement of the "King of Twang," and now "Hall of Famer" Duane Eddy. A very popular instrumentalist of the time Duane famously played a Gretsch 6120 in his early career before acquiring an endorsement with Guild in 1962. By this point Duane had sold around 12 million albums and was a significant influence on future stars such as The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, The Ventures and Steve Earle to name a few.
This is is a superb example of his original signature model, the DE-500 - a model based on the T-500. It features a Spruce top, laminated Maple back/sides, thinline 17" single cutaway body, laminated Maple neck and Ebony fingerboard, along with suitable high-end appointments such as the split pearl/abalone block fingerboard inlays, "G" shield decal to the headstock, multi-bound body and neck and gold plated hardware. Controls are inspired by Gretsch with the addition of a master volume control on the cutaway along with the Bigsby vibrato.
As you can see in the photos this is a superb looking example with loads of character. According to the previous owner this was the house guitar at a bar the US, and it certainly has all of the character, play wear and charm to prove it! The natural lacquer finish has honeyed and aged beautifully showing dings and scratches commensurate with it's use and age. The neck profile is a comfortable medium C and thanks to a recent refret, new nut and setup the action is spot on and overall it's a fantastic instrument to play. Pickups are Guild's standard humbuckers of the period that deliver a nice balanced tone with some pleasant top end befitting of Duane's trademark sound.
All in all this is a rare beast - especially on the UK market - and it's hard to imagine an example with more character and 'mojo' than this! Guild's build quality, choice materials and excellent construction really shines through, and overall this is an inspiring guitar to play. It even retains its original hard shell case.
