1967 Gretsch 6120 Nashville, Western Orange + OHSC

Description

An excellent, original example with some lovely character. The Gretsch 6120 went through a few incarnations up to this point, with its name being changed in 1967 to the Nashville model (the only difference being the nameplate on the front of the headstock versus the earlier version.)
The one has some serious vibe to it, with beautiful lacquer checking and signs of wear only an instrument that has been played and well loved over the years can show. The finish has faded a little and most of the hardware has lost its gold plating, but we feel it looks all the better for it. The binding has stood up well compared to many, but there are signs of deterioration in places, particularly at the heel.
Playability wise, the action is low, the neck has a very comfortable, medium C profile and overall the guitar plays incredibly well. The controls give you many tonal options with a three positioned pickup switch and three way tone switch. The Filter'Tron pickups have that classic Gretsch sparkle and twang with a nice fullness and body to them. With the master volume on the cutaway and individual volumes for each pickup it gives you a lot of control over the instruments' output, great for rhythm and lead playing and you'll find yourself making use of the standby switch more than you'd think!
The "built-in muffler" or mute appears to be the original foam which has deteriorated over the years but the mechanism functions well. The backplate beneath the pad has warped as is common and the screw holes are a bit messy but once the pad is on this isn't noticeable.
Gretsch guitars can so often offer excellent vintage value for money and this one is no exception! An original '60s USA made electric guitar, an iconic model from an iconic brand, complete with original hard case, for under £3k? Why buy new when you can have vintage?!
