1967 Gibson SG Special, Cherry | Ace - Skunk Anansie CollectionDescription
In collaboration with Ace from UK alt-rock band Skunk Anansie, ATB Guitars are proud to offer for sale some of the iconic instruments used throughout his career.
Formed in 1994, Skunk Anansie have become one of the biggest rock bands in Europe with over 6 million physical sales and over 25 million Spotify streams per year not to mention the numerous awards acquired along the way. Their blend of alternative rock, punk, and metal, with powerful vocals and socially conscious lyrics gained them significant attention from the outset with the release of their debut album "Paranoid & Sunburnt" in 1995 followed by "Stoosh" a year later. Skunk Anansie continued to evolve their sound with subsequent albums "Post Orgasmic Chill" (1999), "Wonderlustre" (2010), and "Anarchytecture" (2016), and throughout their career they have been praised for their dynamic live performances and outspoken stance on issues like politics, sexuality, and racism. Guitarist, songwriter and founder member Ace played a crucial role in shaping the band's distinctive sound - his heavy riffs, melodic hooks, and dynamic solos contributing to the band's energetic and impactful music.
During their career Skunk Anansie have shared stages with with such bands as Metallica, Rammstein, Muse, U2, The Rod Hot Chilli Peppers, Lenny Kravitz, Foo Fighters, Bon Jovi, David Bowie and the Sex Pistols. They continue to play sell out shows and release new music under their own independent label. This longevity and influence on the rock scene has cemented their status as one of the most iconic and enduring bands in British rock history. Coinciding with their 30th anniversary and tour Ace has partnered with ATB Guitars to offer for sale some of the iconic instruments he used during his career.
This '67 Gibson SG Special is Ace's guitar of 40 years; his longest owned instrument. "It's been in all my bands as my main guitar and recordings prior to Skunk Anansie, and on all the records since then. I bought this 40 years ago and played it in all my prior bands to Skunk Anansie. It was used extensively on the first LP recording and tour and It's in the first ever gigs press piece we had too as well as in guitarist mags worldwide. It’s been in the studio and used on all LPs since. It’s very cherished It's got huge history and an amazing tone."
Featuring a lightweight double cut Honduras Mahogany body with a Mahogany neck. A bound Rosewood fingerboard with pearl dots and a Pearl inlayed Headstock logo complete the traditional Gibson Special appointments. Being a ’67 the guitar features the revised heel joint, five-ply ‘Batwing’ pickguard and Witch hat knobs that define the Sg though the second half of the sixties. This guitar has had some changes along the way. The body has been oversprayed, tuners are replacement 90’s Gibson Deluxe and the original fixed tailpiece has been replaced with and adjustable Leo Quan Badass bridge. The short Maestro Vibrola has been removed and the redundant holes filled. Inside there is a full compliment of late 1966 dated CTS pots, pickups are the correct dog-ear P-90s with soap bas covers but are later replacements. The insides of the pickup cavities and back of the pickguard have been neatly copper shielded.
Comes with original Skunk Anansie logo picks, a signed 25-year anniversary photo book, guitar strap, case and a signed Certificate of Authenticity by Ace.
