1961 Gibson ES-175, Sunburst

Description

Here’s a stunning example of Gibson’s iconic jazzbox from the golden era – a 1961 Gibson ES-175D in Sunburst, complete with period brown Lifton hard case. With its classic looks, superb playability, and that unmistakable warm, articulate voice, this is indeed a fine example.

Features include a laminated maple body with Florentine cutaway, a one-piece mahogany neck with a bound rosewood fingerboard, iconic split parallelogram inlays and a rich, vibrant Sunburst finish.

Electronics-wise the guitar is fitted with its original short-magnet PAF pickups, (the bridge pickup missing it's PAF sticker), both strong and beautifully balanced, offering a blend of clarity, warmth, and dynamic response that is simply unmatched. As we all know, these are some of the most desirable pickups ever made, and when paired with the hollow maple body of the ES-175, they produce everything from smooth, smoky jazz tones to articulate clean blues and even edge-of-breakup grit, all with that airiness the PAF is famous for. All pots remain in their factory shielding cans.

Hardware includes the original rosewood bridge, Nickel zig-zag tailpiece, and Nickel single-line Kluson tuners, though the high B and E tuners are repros. The pickguard, switch tip and knobs are original with two missing their "reflector" tops. The neck is a comfortable slim C profile, typical of the year.

It also has a “Made in USA” export stamp on the back of the headstock—a cool feature seen only on instruments destined for international markets. If you're after a golden-era ES-175 with original PAFs, in excellent condition with great feel and tone, this one hits the sweet spot. An honest, player and collector-worthy instrument that’s been lovingly cared for, sounds superb, and has plenty more to give. An absolute gem.
