ARCHIVED' 2012 Gibson 50th Anniversary of Marshall Les Paul Goldtop + Limited Edition 1962 Bluesbreaker - #22 of 50Description
What more iconic a combination than a Gibson Les Paul and a Marshall Bluesbreaker amp? The tone that started it all.
In 2012, to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Marshall, Gibson and Marshall collaborated to produce a short run of 50 Goldtop Les Pauls, aged by Tom Murphy, and hand-wired Model 1962 Bluesbreaker combos.
The amps are all handwired, with the team at Marshall going to great lengths to source the original components. Drake Transformers were given the original plans and built some to the same specifications as did Celestion, who made a short run of aluminum chassis for the speakers as per the originals. Aesthetically Marshall also contacted the original manufacturers of the grill cloth and had them produce some of the amp.
The guitars were each aged by Tom Murphy himself, the specifications of each following as closely as possible those of the original design. A Marshall logo is inlaid at the 12th fret with Jim Marshall’s signature on the trussrod cover.
We have here number 22 of the run of 50, one of only 15 sets that came to the UK.
Both pieces are in as new condition, the Marshall comes with its original packaging.
Here is what was written at the time…
Gibson 50th Anniversary of Marshall Les Paul Goldtop
Based on the highly sought-after Gibson Custom Shop 1957 Les Paul Reissue Goldtop, this guitar is one of a strictly limited run of 50 pieces worldwide, each one hand-aged by Tom Murphy.
The 50th Anniversary of Marshall Les Paul Goldtop begins with the iconic combination of a premium select lightweight one-piece mahogany body and a two-piece carved maple top for the perfect marriage of depth and clarity. The look of an original '50s Goldtop is captured in Gibson Custom's hand-sprayed nitrocellulose finish, and the entire guitar is then hand-aged by Tom Murphy to perfectly replicate the gently aged appearance of an original 1957 Les Paul.
Vintage-correct cream body binding is matched by a commemorative cream plastic pickguard hot-stamped with a "Marshall 50th" badge and a two-ply black-white truss rod cover hot-stamped with Jim Marshall’s signature. The one-piece, quarter-sawn mahogany neck is glued in with a long tenon for enhanced resonance and sustain and carved to a rounded ’50s profile that measures .900" at the first fret and 1.000" at the 12th. One of several period-correct details, the rosewood fingerboard carries 22 vintage reissue frets, tortoise side dots, a nylon 6/6 nut, and is trimmed with .004" cream binding and inlaid with nitrocellulose trapezoids, plus the iconic "Marshall" script logo gracing the 12th fret position. To make the 50th Anniversary of Marshall Les Paul Goldtop supremely playable, the neck is Plek'd at the factory for optimum action and playing feel.
With the look of a rare original 1957 Les Paul fully assured, Gibson Custom goes all out to give the 50th Anniversary of Marshall Les Paul Goldtop all the tone and performance of a prized vintage guitar. The BurstBucker 1 in the neck position and BurstBucker 2 in the bridge are made with genuine Alnico II magnets and wound with 42 AWG wire, with slightly mismatched coils, just like the legendary PAF humbuckers of the late '50s, for a characteristic edge and complexity that is unmatched by modern humbucking pickups.
Marshall Limited Edition 1962 Bluesbreaker 50th Anniversary Combo
Based on the JTM45, the handwired limited edition 1962 Bluesbreaker is regarded as the definitive 60s Marshall. With 30 watts of power through dual 12" Celestion G12C, you can channel the tone of legends.
The G12Cs provide a rich midrange with warm low end response, not to tight or too loose but just right! When you plug into this beast you will instantly recognise the sound.
This is the last of this iconic pairing available in the UK. Both limited to 50 pieces and are pair number 22.
