1974 Gibson Flying V natural + OHSC

Description

Following a mixed existence from its inception in 1958 and patchy sales, the Flying V re-emerged with a production of 175 guitars, in 5 batches during 1967-69. The mid-70s saw the second (or third if you count the korunas) coming, proving an instant success and seen in the hands of James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett of Metallica, Michael Schenker of UFO and Paul Stanley of Kiss and asserted itself as the must have rock guitar of the 1970s.

The guitar looks the part. No one will doubt how serious you are with this around your neck. The finish is well looked after with no real signs of abuse. The front shows the odd dink, with a bit of discoloration here and there. The back has a few minor dinks but looks fantastic. The two pieces of mahogany used look good with a good grain pattern. An additional strap button has been fitted at some stage, probably so the guitar could be played left handed.

The three piece neck too is in good shape without any real knocks. The rosewood board shows only minor signs of wear. The frets have plenty of  life left in them. The correct tuners are still present and are in good working order.

The hardware looks good. The bridge shows a little sign of wear.

The plastics are all correct with no sign of shrinkage or cracking.

Electrically everything is correct with pots dated as week 12 of 1974. The bridge pickup is a late Patent Number sticker with the bridge being an early example of the patent number stamp.

The guitar comes with its correct black Tolex case with purple lining.

This guitar really sings. Both pickups sound fantastic. The neck is smooth but still plenty of attack, together both pickups roar whilst the bridge pickup really cuts through without any brittleness . Its also a really comfortable guitar to play, even sat down!

They weren't all made equal as the Norlin years really set in but this one is quite a find. If Vs are your thing then this will not disappoint....
