1957 Gibson Les Paul Custom, Refin Black + HSC

Description

Killer, player grade, 3 pickup 50s Les Paul Custom sporting a nice black refinish. Being 50s you get quality tonewoods and construction that set it apart from any other era - old growth Honduran Mahogany single piece body & neck, long neck tenon and an incredibly comfortable neck profile. Having had a few changes this one is a fraction of the price of an original model... and at the time of writing we have one in stock for over £80k.
Starting from the top you have the Custom split diamond headstock inlay below the '50s open "b" open "o" dotted pearl Gibson logo. Tuners are period correct, gold plated Pat. Pend. Grovers that give really good stability and tuning. The serial number has been restamped to the back of the headstock. There is what appears to be a well repaired headstock crack beneath the black refinish. Under blacklight there is no fluorescence to the headstock until you get beyond the first fret, the rest of the guitar fluorescing as expected of a Nitro finish with a few years under it's belt.
The nut has been changed and the guitar has been refretted. It plays remarkably well with plenty of height to the frets. The neck profile is slimmer than you might expect from a '57 but really comfortable. The neck binding has the correct tortoiseshell dot markers and the neck joins the body with a long tenon. The 3 original PAFs have long gone, but are fortunate to have been replaced with two early Pat. No. humbuckers separated by a Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates Plus in the middle. It's a great sounding guitar that give you many options tone wise.
The ABR-1 no-wire bridge and stoptail are correct, the poker ship, pickguard and switch tip are repro parts. The knobs are correct black bonnet style and in between them is a filled hole likely from a previously added switch.
We think it has been refinished, but if it has, it was done a very long time ago and has aged like an original and displays some prominent, wide lacquer checking. The binding has yellowed nicely and overall we think this is an excellent looking guitar. This is a really good opportunity to get your hands on a Les Paul from Gibson's most desirable and revered period of solid body guitar production. We doubt it will hang around for long!
