1917 Gibson A-1 Style Mandolin, Pumpkin Top - Robert Plant Collection

Description

Another from the Robert Plant collection, here we have a Pumpkin Top, style A-1 mandolin made in Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1917.

Orville Gibson's revolutionary design of Style A and Style F mandolins introduced violin making concepts to the mandolin world. It lead to more volume, projection and a better overall tone that would in turn set a new standard for archtop building and pave the way for more modern designs like the ES thinline.

This is a nice example owned and played by Robert. It's had some remedial work as detailed in the invoice from Hill Grove Custom Guitars dated 29/6/20 and made out to Robert. The instrument is now playing very well and is in good cosmetic condition. It's missing the pickguard and tailpiece cover, and the bridge has been changed, otherwise it's a fantastic playing instrument with a lovely tone as you'd expect.

A very nice piece of Robert Plant memorabilia, complete with letter of authenticity signed by Robert, along with a hard case.
