1980 Hagstrom Super Swede + OHSC
Introduced in 1976, the Super Swede was Hagstrom’s flagship solid body guitar. All mahogany construction with a glued in neck, the guitar benefitted from Hagstrom’s rail truss rod. Seen in the hands of players such as Larry Corryell, Björn Ulvaeus and more recently Pat Smear who is reposfrted to have the largest collection of Hagstrom guitar in the US.
This particular example left the Älvdalen factory in Sweden on the 29th of August 1980 and was shipped to Japan Music in Japan on the 29th October of the same year, the 31st of a batch of 250. Special thanks to Karl Erik Hagstrom, the CEO of Hagstrom Guitars for this piece of information. Some epic record keeping.
Guitar is in great condition. Body has some slight scratches on the back but nothing toto substantial. The cherry finish seems not to have faded very much and really showcases the excellent mahogany grain.
The neck too is in similar condition. The fretboard has been filled in at the fits and second frets but there are no other signs of repair and the original frets have plenty of life left in them.
Hardware shows some signs of use but still retains its luster as does the plastics.
Electrically everything looks correct with no sign of the solder having been disturbed.
The guitar comes with its correct hardshell case.
This guitar possesses a dynamic that far outweighs its price tag, with plenty of tonal options and the three way coil tap switch. An underrated classic.
Not often seen but worth more than a cursory glance. Grab it before it gets away…
