1989 Fender '52 reissue Telecaster - ex John Squire

Description

Stunning, Clive Brown refin Blackguard Telecaster, owned and used by John Squire, founding member/guitarist of The Stone Roses and The Seahorses. This guitar comes with full written provenance and was owned and used by John from the mid-1990s through to 2022, on stage, in the studio and on screen.
It was used to record several Seahorses tracks including "Blinded by the Sun", "Round the Universe", and "Happiness Is Eggshaped"—and features prominently in the official video for Blinded by the Sun (linked in the listing). For fans of John Squire and '90s British guitar culture, it doesn’t get better than this!
The guitar comes with a signed letter of provenance from John Squire, along with a letter from Martin Herbert, his long-time guitar tech of over 30 years and one of the instrument’s prior owners. Photographs of both Martin and John holding the guitar are included as part of the package.
As for the guitar itself firstly it looks superb. The relic'ing and discolouration to the finish is second to none, and it won't come as a surprise that it was done by Clive Brown. With 35 years now under its belt it's developed an even more convincing patina. The Ash body and Maple neck are from a '52 reissue Fender Tele but the components are a mix of vintage Fender and aged reproduction.
Tuners are '56-'58 Single Line Klusons, the bridge plate is correct and of Nocaster period with serial number 0313, pickups are '50s as is the switch and switch tip. The volume pot dates to '65 and the tone pot is period correct of Clarostat manufacture. All other parts are aged repro.
It plays and feels like a well-worn Tele. It's lightweight, resonant, has a really comfortable medium C neck profile with fairly soft shoulders - overall it's an excellent guitar to play. The pickups deliver that punchy attack and pleasant jangle typical of John Squire’s rhythm and lead work during his Seahorses era.
This is a rare opportunity to own a guitar with genuine artist provenance, documented use on recordings and video, and loaded with tone and character. Whether you’re a collector of British rock memorabilia, a John Squire fan, or just someone looking for a killer Tele with rock n roll pedigree—this is a great choice!
