1965 Fender Telecaster Lake Placid Blue Maple Cap + OHSC

Description

Maple cap, 60’s custom colour Telecaster, what more do you need? Its a 1965 Fender Telecaster in Lake Placid Blue with a spaghetti logo to boot!

This guitar is certainly no shrinking violet. The finish is exquisite and will stand out in any collection. Lake Placid blue is a very rare shade for a Telecaster and though its not been squirrelled away, this one hasn't faded too extensively, resembling a hue somewhere between LPB and LPG.

The maple cap neck (available as an option from the early 60's and not part of normal production until 1966) still has its factory large frets which have plenty of life left in them  and is remarkably free of wear. The headstock is in great condition with the logo having escaped any real damage.

The electronics are correct though the switch has been wired to post 1967 configuration so that there is no capacitor in line with the neck pickup when this is selected by itself. The chrome parts are in good shape and although having a period look, have remained free of any major corrosion, a common sight with telecasters of any age.

The guitar comes with a correct Fender black tolex case.

Sonically, this guitar has a superbly ‘spanky’ quality with plenty of bite from the bridge pickup as you’d expect. The 250k pots help round the sound a little, a feature that is much appreciated when compared to telecasters from later on. The neck pickup is a perfect foil bringing a warmth to proceedings. The maple neck is comfortable to play and the finish has been sufficiently worn to provide a compliant playing surface.

Custom colour Fenders are always a welcome sight here at ATB Guitars and this 1965 Telecaster is a stunning example with a great tone to match. Grab it before it gets away!
