1979 Gibson Les Paul Standard, Sunburst

Description

A great example of a late-’70s  Les Paul Standard, retaining all the features that have made these guitars increasingly popular in recent years.

Constructed with the tried and tested mahogany body and carved maple top (no pancake body!) this Standard delivers the familiar Les Paul combination of sustain, midrange punch, and strong low-end response. The original Patent Stamped humbuckers provide a warm, balanced voice with plenty of output, offering everything from full-bodied cleans to thick, singing overdriven tones with excellent note definition. The electronics appear to be all original, however the pickup covers have been removed at some point. One thing to note is the small, filled hole by the controls, where once was fitted a toggle switch- this has since been removed and put back to original spec. Also changed is the jack plate and the tuners, which have been replaced with Gotoh locking machine heads- the originals are retained in the case.

The 3-piece maple neck has the comfortable late-’70s Gibson feel, sitting between the slimmer ’60s profiles and the larger ’50s-style carves, making it an easy guitar to settle into. The overall build quality is exactly what you’d expect from a solid Norlin-era Les Paul, with a substantial, solid feel and excellent sustain.

Presented in very good condition overall, with the beginnings of some beautiful patination and checking starting to appear, consistent with age. The guitar remains structurally sound and highly playable. Comes with original "chainsaw" protector case.

A really excellent and well-kept Gibson Les Paul Standard from the late Norlin era, offering classic looks, dependable build quality, and classic Les Paul tone.
