1976 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe, Natural

Description

A very clean 1976 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe, finished in Natural and in excellent condition.

The Les Paul Deluxe was a mainstay of Gibson’s 1970s output, offering classic Les Paul looks and feel with the tighter, more focused sound of mini-humbuckers. The Natural top versions have a particularly cool period look, showing off the maple top and giving the guitar a slightly more understated, workmanlike character than some of the more familiar sunburst examples.

This example is in excellent condition overall, with a very clean Natural finish. It has the typical mid-’70s construction, with a 3-piece maple neck, small volute, mahogany/maple sandwich body, rosewood fingerboard and trapezoid inlays.

The neck is comfortable, measuring 43.1mm at the nut, with a depth of 20.3mm at the 1st fret and 23.7mm at the 12th. The original frets remain in place, with the binding nibs retained, and it plays very well. At 4.44kg, it is a fairly good weight for one of these and it balances nicely in use.

Hardware includes the correct double-line Gibson Deluxe tuners with double-ring tips. The bridge has been changed to a chrome ABR-1 style Gotoh type, with the Nashville bridge retained in the case.

Electronically, the guitar is nice and correct, with CTS pots dating to 1976 and wiring that all looks stock. The two correct Patent Number stamped mini-humbuckers remain in place with their chrome covers, reading 6.03k at the bridge and 6.14k at the neck.

Tonally, these Deluxe models offer a slightly different take on the Les Paul formula. The mini-humbuckers have plenty of clarity and bite, with a focused midrange, tight low end and a crisp top end that helps them cut through very well.

A superb mid-’70s Les Paul Deluxe in a very nice Natural finish. Comes with a non-original hard shell case.
