1967 Fender Coronado XII, Firemist Gold

Description

A superb 1967 Fender Coronado XII, finished in the very rare custom colour Firemist Gold and presented in excellent overall condition.

The Coronado XII was only produced for a short window between 1966 and 1969, and even standard finish examples are not exactly common. To find one in Firemist Gold is something else entirely. It is a wonderfully striking guitar, with the metallic gold finish, matching hockey-stick headstock, bound f-holes and block-and-bound rosewood fingerboard giving it a stunning overall look.

This example also appears to be the guitar featured in Fender: The Golden Age, photo-matched by the headstock wear pattern. That is a lovely bit of added interest and this is exactly the sort of rare, eye-catching custom colour Fender you would expect to see documented in such a book.

The guitar presents very well, with nicely yellowed binding and a very strong overall look. The original matching-headstock neck is stamped FEB 67 and is included, though it is suffering somewhat having been under years of 12-string tension. An additional neck with a black headstock is therefore included in the sale, giving the next owner a practical option while keeping the original neck with the guitar.

Spec-wise, it has all the right Coronado XII features: bound rosewood fingerboard with block inlays, Fender trapeze tailpiece, Mustang-style adjustable bridge, bound f-holes and the unmistakable hockey-stick headstock as seen on the Electric XII.

Tonally, the Coronado XII has that jangly, airy semi-hollow 12-string voice and character. It is bright and chimey as you'd expect, great for layering in a mix to fill space.

All in all, a very rare and highly attractive custom colour Coronado XII in Firemist Gold. A proper late-’60s Fender oddity, and an exceptionally cool one at that!
