This is a lot of fun!! Released in 1995, the Lovetone Meatball is one of the most revered and sought-after envelope filter pedals ever made, and a defining piece in the world of boutique analog effects. Designed and hand-built in the UK by Dan Coggins and Vlad Naslas, the Meatball gained a cult following for its versatility, analog warmth, and the sheer depth of its modulation capabilities.

At its core, the Meatball is an envelope-controlled filter - but it’s far more than a typical auto-wah. Using a complex system of internal routing and external control options, it offers dynamic filtering, phasing, and modulation effects that can be tailored to respond expressively to your playing. The pedal features controls for sensitivity, attack, decay, colour, intensity and blend, allowing for fine-grained shaping of the filter’s response. The filter itself is a multi-mode resonant low-pass design with selectable bandpass and high-pass options, giving it a wide palette of textures - from subtle vowel-like tone shifts to wild, synth-like sweeps!

The circuit is fully analog, giving the Meatball a rich, organic quality that shines on guitar, bass, synths, or any instrument you run through it. Its wide frequency response and robust headroom make it a favorite in studio settings as well as on stage.

Built in a sturdy and iconic purple metal enclosure with retro-industrial graphics, each Meatball from the original production run is now a rare and coveted piece. Used by artists like Kirk Hammett, Dan Auerbach, The Edge, Kevin Shields, J Mascis and Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien, the Lovetone Meatball remains a benchmark for analog filter design - quirky, complex, and endlessly musical!
