1982 Fender Rivera Era hand wired Super Champ
Now seen as a golden period, Paul Rivera’s stint at Fender in the early 80’s produced some of the company's most highly regarded amps in a time of flux. The last of the traditional (non-PCB) range, this Champ is an exemplar of the ethos that Rivera brought to the company. Having been a fixture at Valley Arts during the 70’s, Paul brought his experience working in the crucible of the LA music scene.
The Super Champ is a distillation of this knowledge, a powerhouse of an amp packed full of usable features. 18 watts through a 10” speaker, switchable mid-boost, lead channel and master volume takes this amp way beyond its namesakes’ tonal range. From classic Fender cleans to things all together more raucous, its all here.
Cosmetically the amp is in great shape with only some minor staining. No tears to the tolex or the grill cloth. The faceplate too is in good condition.
Inside there is no sign of any changes. All transformers are correct as is the reverb tank. The speaker has been replaced with a Celestion G10.
This is an amp that might make you question if you ever need another. Plenty of clean headstroom and the master volume gives you ultimate control. The lead channel and switchable mid-boost expand the palette with very usable tones. A truly great amp.Grab it before it gets away.
