Description

1978 Marshall JMP 2203 Mk2 100w Super Lead Head and Cab

Defining the sound of guitar music in the late 60s, the JMP range took Marshall into the new decade with a more aggressive sound that was to set the bar for years to come. By 1976, following suggestions by players, a Master Volume model was introduced, the 2203, giving players access to that Marshall growl at more sedate volumes.

The amp came to us in quite a grubby condition which has now been cleaned off as best as we can and we do think it has come up rather well! The tolex has had the odd knock here and there. You can see the remnants of the nicotine staining on the piping and the logo. Having said that, overall the amp is in very nice cosmetic condition.

The same can be said of the cab. It too was also grubby when we received it. Following a clean, torn patches were glued. There is evidence of previous cosmetic repairs that we’ve left alone as they’re stable.

Internally both the amp and cab seem to have been left well alone with no sign of any modifications or repairs. The Drake Transformers are still present and we suspect that the valves might be the originals. The correct Celestion G12M speakers are still present and show no sign of damage.

As you’d expect, this thing rocks hard and is the sought after predecessor to the JCM800 series. Classic tones at reasonable volume, these amps have the reputation because they get the job done. Nothing sounds like a Marshall.

This is a bit of a bargain price as we are basically giving away the cab and just selling the half stack for what the head is worth. Shipping may be expensive depending on where you live so treat what is listed as a guide. Collection is always welcome with anything we have, if it is on the website, we have it here in stock.

The dictionary definition of a rock amp, grab it before its wheeled up the ramp into the truck…
