Much maligned but unsurprisingly Gibson's most popular model of the 1970s, the Les Paul Deluxe’s combination of mahogany body and twin mini humbuckers augmented the sonic palette of this classic instrument becoming the touchstone for 70’s tones.

This example just oozes mojo. The cherry looks great and has worn beautifully. Interestingly, only 760 of the 5194 Deluxe’s shipped in 1973 were finished in cherry. The back of the 2 piece ‘pancake’ body is well worn too.

The three piece mahogany neck shows equal amounts of wear. The fretboard is in good shape, the nut is original, and the original frets still have a plenty of life in them. The headstock has had a chunk from the corner off of it as you can see and tuners have been replaced with Schallers. Bridge and tailpiece are aftermarket versions.

Plastics and hardware are in good shape with only some slight wear to be seen on the bridge.

Electronically, pots are dated to week 44 of 1973. The pickups have been changed to some very cool sounding P-90's though its not clear the manufacturer.

The guitar comes with a slightly later, late 70's hardshell case.

The unamplified tone has plenty of sustain, as you’d expect from a good Gibson. The P90s are a nice addition sounding suitably sweet and gritty.

A stunning guitar that looks and sounds the part. Grab it before it get away…
