1973 Gibson Les Paul 54 Limited Edition Reissue + OHSC

Description

This is one of the coolest LP Customs you can get. This is Gibson's first dive in to the reissue market, way back in the early 70's and it was quite something compared to the standard LP's they were producing at that time.

These Limited Edition, '54 Reissue guitars were made from 1971 to 1973 and this one is a superb example, what's more it is 100% original with the same original frets (in nice condition) and the same tuners - both of which are usually the first things to be modified on these.

Body is a non sandwich construction and neck has no volute, harking right back to its origins in the 50's. The body is in very nice condition with just a few minor dings here and there. The binding has yellowed very nicely and it definitely has that vintage vibe about it.

The neck, as with the body is well cared for with no wear at all to speak of. The fretboard is in great shape, as is often the way with ebony. The frets show pretty much zero wear and are still very playable. As with the body, the neck binding has yellowed nicely and really sets off the deep black.

Plastics are in great shape as you’d expect. Neither of the pickup covers show any signs of cracking which is especially prevalent with the Alnico V pickup due to its fragile nature.

The hardware is in good condition and working perfectly but the bridge does show signs of wear on the finish (see pics).

Electronically everything is untouched and is working correctly.

The guitar comes with its original hardshell case which itself is well cared for.

Sonically this guitar is wonderful. Both pickups are clear. The Alnico V pickup is always a pleasure to play and this one here is no exception. There is definetly a more hi-fidelity feel to the sound. The bridge pickup keeps up its end of the bargain admirably and delivers a nice contrast with a little more a hairy tone, biting without being too harsh.

We really don’t see these guitars in this original condition often and to have one at all is in fact a privilege for us.
