1973 Fender Telecaster Thinline, Natural + OHSC
Superb, original Fender Telecaster Thinline Telecaster in fantastic condition. Ash body, Natural finish and two outstanding sounding pickups all in a great playing, sub 7lbs guitar. Perfect condition for the player looking for a very clean example or the collector searching for one of the best preserved Thinline Telecasters out there.
Originally released late '68 the Type 1 Telecaster Thinline was available with an Ash or Mahogany single f-hole body (hollow on the bass side) and a Maple cap 4-bolt neck. It featured a new look pearloid pickguard but apart from that it retained the standard Tele configuration. The Type II version was one of Fender's first models to feature the highly revered Seth Lover-designed wide range humbuckers. Released late in 1971 the Type II Thinline featured, like the Stratocaster, the new 3-bolt neck with micro-adjustment and bullet truss rod adjuster.
This particular model from 1973 is an excellent example in superb condition. Just out of a collection where it has only seen light use over the last 15 years. It has a May 73 neck date and a stamp denoting "natural" in the neck pickup cavity. The finish is excellent throughout with minimal wear to neck, fingerboard or body. The original frets are in perfect condition and have lost no height. Under the three-ply pickguard the guitar is equally as clean with two great sounding Wide Range pickups both with matching ’73 date stamps. Volume pots share the same source code 137-7315 for early ’73 and the tone pots slightly later at 1377324. Hardware is all correct, chrome plated and in equally good condition.
The neck profile is a fairly chunky 'C' more reminiscent of a 50’s Tele than a 60’s. Measurements are 22.8mm at the 1st fret filling out to 23.3 mm at the 12th. The nut is the standard Fender nut width and measures 40.8mm with callipers. It plays well strung with 10s. In terms of tone the Wide Range humbuckers are very well balanced and offer incredible range and clarity as is their reputation. Overall this is an excellent guitar which we feel represents very good value in todays vintage market. Complete with original Fender Case.
