First appearing in 1957, the Country Gentleman bracketed the 6120 with the 6119 Tennessean. Adopted by Chet Atkins as his go to guitar in the studio due in no small part to the Filtertron pickups, 1964 saw the models popularity take to the stratosphere following an appearance on the Ed Sullivan show by a little known pop combo from Liverpool, cementing the guitars position in the canon of iconic guitars.

This guitar is in great condition. There are no serious marks on the body. The binding, always a potential point of issue with  Gretsch's, is intact. The finish hasn’t really faded. INterestingly this guitar is one of the last few to have left the factory with the painted f hole as this feature, along with the removal of the nameplate on the headstock, was phased out in 1972.

The neck is in good shape too and has retained some of its gloss finish. The finish has worn here a bit as you can see from the pictures. The fretboard is in superb shape as are the frets. There are signs that the neck has been reset.

The hardware is worn but not corroded. The plastics are in great shape though the pickup surrounds have been replaced. The originals are in the case.

The electronics are in good shape and have remained untouched.

The guitar comes with its correct hardshell case

Sonically this guitar delivers. The unamplified sound has a clear tone that really translates plugged in. Both pickups sound so wonderful, very classic Gretsch and the array of switches add to the tonal palette. The springiness of the Bigsby is also so pleasing.

Maybe not from the classic period but this is a great example of what Gretsch was capable of. Grab it before it gets away.
