This is a unique instrument. In 1966 Barrie Midford-Millership walked into EME in Watford and placed a custom order for a Telecaster Bass to Fender, following the lines of the original Precision bass discontinued in 1957.

According to his excellent book ‘The Mighty Hybrid and the Keeper of the Slabs’ when this bass was finally delivered to the UK through Arbiter, it was passed around to a few artists before being delivered to him in Watford. This set off a chain reaction that ended in Arbiter ordering two more batches of the bass. This bass is from that second batch.

Examples have been seen in the hands of players such as John Entwhistle and Chip Hawkes of the Tremeloes. Its been suggested that this bass could have belonged to Chip Hawkes but we as yet cannot prove this definitively.

This bass looks great. The finish has worn but not too extensively as you can see from the pictures. The original blonde finish is quite opaque but you can see the grain of the ash in some places. There are no signs of any modification or touch up to the finish anywhere

The also very rare maple cap neck has all original finish too and original parts, with a wonderfully light hue and shows only a few signs of wear, managing to survive without any real serious marks. There is no neck date. The fretboard is also superb and the frets have plenty of life left in them.

The pick guard is a thin centre laminate type and the plastic pickup covers look to be correct.

The hardware is in good condition. The bridge shows some signs of corrosion but not too serious. Bridge cover is in great condition. The pickup cover is missing.

Electronically everything looks correct though the volume pot has been changed and there is a new grounding wire installed.

The bass comes with a hardshell case.

The bass has been used for many years by a world class player who used it on many sessions and on many big stages across the planet. It has been expertly set up and is one of the best playing and sounding P Basses we have ever had here. This bass delivers the right blend of growl and round full tone with authority without any need for bells or whistles. Just what you want!

An incredible story and an excellent instrument, this is a must have for any collector. Grab this before it gets away and get away it will….!
