1966 Grampian 636 Reverberation Unit

Description

The Legendary Grampian 636 Reverberation Unit is well known for its unmistakable spring reverb and rich harmonic distortion when pushed. Unearthed from storage, this unit originally resided in a recording studio in Italy and was brought into us by the Grandson of the original owner.

Freshly back from our tech with a clean bill of health it sounds utterly glorious. Plugging in and playing through one it’s easy too see why these unassuming grey boxes are so highly sought. Used and integral to Pete Townshend's sound in the Who, units could often be seen with him on stage and in the Studio. Equally important to the early dub sound, pioneers such as the great Lee Scratch Perry used the 636 to genre defining effect.

Becoming harder and harder to find, this one has had all the work done and ships in fully restored condition, it comes with a newly built external mains power supply built to the original Grampian schematic diagram.

With a guitar plugged in the quality of the sound is quite extraordinary, the reverb has a voice of its own, unmistakably spring but quite unlike a traditional amp or Fender spring reverb units. When the inputs are pushed the unit really comes to life; it sounds big, full and overflowing with harmonic content. The overdrive/distortion produced is as addictive as is the hypnotic glow from the overload jewel light.

All in all a collectable piece of vintage studio equipment that needs to be heard. Fully restored and ready for another 60 years of sonic mischief.
