1966 Gibson Firebird III + OHSC
Not many survived the 60’s 70’s 80’s let alone into the Naughties without some kind of issue, usually the dreaded headstock break due to bad case design. This one has miraculously survived the years in amazing condition, without any kind of modifications or ‘upgrades’ at all.
The body shows some signs of use. There are a few dinks but nothing that really detracts from the look of this guitar. The one piece body is wonderfully showcased by the light tobacco sunburst finish.
Neck is very comfortable to play. There is no real wear to the back or the fretboard, the original frets have plenty of life left in them. There is a slight crack underneath the trussrod nut at the base of the headstock. Its difficult to tell if this is just the lacquer or something more. We do know that tuning is stable and it doesn’t seem to move.
The pickguard shows slight signs of shrinkage but nothing that threatens its integrity.
The hardware is in good condition showing no signs of corrosion
Electrically everything looks to be correct with all solder joints present, correct and un-disturbed. The pots read week 39 of 1965.
The trio of P90s do their job in their own inimitable way and provide a gritty sound that is well balanced and clear.
Original case is in excellent shape,
Not many of these have survived the ravages of time. This one is in stunning condition, no breaks, repairs or touch ups and would make a fine addition to any collection.
