Now this is a rare beast. A 1966 Custom Colour transitional Telecaster in Ice Blue Metallic, all original finish everywhere, no touch ups, no over-spray and mighty fine sounding it is too…
This is only the second IBM 60’s Tele we have ever had and is one of the rarer coloured Teles out there. As per usual with this colour it has faded with a yellowing cleacoat to produce this pleasing shade of green but under the hood you can clearly see the original hue of the Ice Blue Metallic.
It has had a refret which is very difficult to see and whoever did it, did a great job with sypathetically sized frets. An extra string tree has been plugged in the headstock face and at some stage other tuners have been on as under black light conditions you can make out feint ghosting of other washers. Luckily, the holes have not been enlarged and no extra holes are visible on the back of the headstock with the original tuners now fitted. Under the tuners you can see one extra screw hole for each tuner.
In addition to this, the wiring has been converted at the switch for post 67 style, which if you are going to play it, is a pretty good mod that virtually everyone would want to make.
Both pickups are totally original and very strong sounding with just the right amount of bite, power and twang in the perfect ratio that anyone who owns and plays a good sounding transitional Tele will know full well what we are talking about.
Pots are also original with dates of the xx week of 1966. All other hardware is original or correct and where there is contact with paint, it is a perfect book match.
This is a top sounding Tele and a rare custom colour that has always been a great investment. We have no idea when another one like this is going to come along and probably this is the only one for sale out there right now so, find another..!
