1965 Gibson ES-335 TDC 64 spec + OHSC

Description

An early 1965, wide nut, big neck, ‘64 spec Gibson ES-335 TDC anyone?

Debuting in 1958, the ES-335 and its siblings formed the trifecta spearheading the Gibson semi acoustic range. 1960 saw the introduction of the cherry finish, a defining feature of Gibson guitars to come.

Resplendent in its desirable, almost unfaded cherry finish, this guitar looks great. A classic example of a classic finish, this guitar has been well cared for and is in great condition. Both front and back are free of any real wear. There is a visible dink on the front next to the vibrola. The back has a few marks but nothing too severe.

The back of the neck has a few wear marks, making it very comfortable in the hand. The fretboard is in good shape and a recent refret helping it play very well. There are no signs of any breaks or touch ups.

The tuners are a mix of double and single line Klusons but there does not seem to have been any other tuners fitted and this would be totally correct for this transition year. This being a transition year for Gibson between nickel and chrome, on this guitar we have everything in nickel apart from the bridge and studs which are in chrome. The position of the bridge has also been corrected in the past. The original holes have been drilled out and filled. This can be seen under the thumbscrews.

The hardware is in great condition too and the plastics are in great shape. Pickguard shows no sign of warping, the reflector knobs are in great condition. Electrically everything looks correct with both patent number pickups looking to be undisturbed.

The guitar comes with a correct Gibson black Tolex case with black lining that has has one hinge of the handle missing.

Both pickups on this guitar sound great and are very evenly balanced. The neck pickup really accentuates the wood tones without losing any definition whilst the bridge pickup really delivers that bite that you only really get from a classic patent number pickup.

If you’re looking for an ES guitar then you can’t go much wrong with this one. Grab it before it gets away…
