Buddy Guy is a lightning rod to the heart of the blues, the last of the greats who links the 21st Century with Muddy Waters and Howlin Wolf, inspiring a slew of subsequent generations with his incendiary style. Synonymous with the Fender Starstocaster, this early 1965 example served as his backup guitar for years.

The body is in great condition. The finish has faded a little and there are a few knocks but nothing substantial. This guitar was signed by the man himself in 1991 it seems.

The neck too is in great shape. The finish has worn comfortably on the back and the fretboard is in great condition. The original frets have some life left in them. Neck date is December 1964.

The plastics as you'd expect have faded a little but there is not too much wear. The hardware too is in great shape with not too much corrosion. It looks like the bridge saddles may have been re-chromed but everything else seems good.

The correct grey bottom pickups (February 12th 1965) are present as are the correct pots which are dated week 1 1965. None of the solder looks to have been disturbed.

The guitar comes with its correct Black Tolex case which like the guitar is in mighty fine condition. Also with the case is one of Mr Guy’s straps, also signed. This was originally sold by David Davidson's Well Strung Guitars a few years ago.

Many of those classic Strat tones live in these mid-60's guitars. These guitars really deliver a fantastic tone that hasn't yet drifted too far towards the thinner end of the spectrum and still retains some of the fullness of the earlier incarnation Fender single coils.

You won’t have the blues but this one was played by one of its greatest proponents…
