“This popular new beauty is the ‘sports car’ of the Gretsch line. Snappy, trim modern lines… exclusive built-in playing features that help give you the sound of distinction. A real knock-out in two-tone Smoke Green.”
Introduced in 1958 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the company, the Anniversary and Double Anniversary models followed the same lines as the flagship 6120, omitting the more glamorous additions such as binding and a Bigsby and in the process becoming one of the longest serving models in the cannon.
This guitar is in great condition. Body, both front and back show very little signs of wear. The finish has faded a little but on a whole is still vibrant. There are signs of shrinkage around the binding as you can see from the photos but this seems stable.
The neck has been reset and refretted recently, work carried out at Vintage and Rare in Bath prior to the previous owner’s purchase last year. Here, as with the body, there are signs of cracking in the lacquer and some shrinkage of the binding. Again, these are stable. As with the body, the neck itself is in great shape and the adjustments make for a well playing guitar.
The hardware and plastics are in good condition, retaining the luster of a well cared for guitar.
Electrically everything looks correct and undisturbed.
The guitar comes with its correct hardshell case.
This is a great representation of the Gretsch sound of the mid-60’s with the Hi/Lo pickups providing a subtle yet twangy timbre. The neck pickup has a lovely smooth quality with a distinctive honk in the middle position.
Great Gretsch tone with looks to match, two tone is definitely the way to go. Grab this before it gets away…
