1959 Gibson ES-225 T + OSSC Nr MINT!

Description

Super clean, single pickup ES-225 in incredible condition! A golden year for Gibson's neck profile, this one is an absolute joy to play, and being a single pickup version it represents excellent value in today's vintage market.

Introduced in 1956, the ES-225 was the first thinline, fully-hollow body guitar in the Gibson catalogue, starting a trend that would continue on through the Byrdland and ES-350 and usher in the ES-330, paving the way for the semi-hollow ES guitars towards the end of the decade.

Features include the Nickel trapeze bridge/tailpiece (as used on earlier Les Pauls,) a sharp cutaway, fully hollow body, bonnet knobs, Nickel hardware, 3-a-side Kluson tuners, pearl inlaid Gibson logo and a bound fingerboard with dot inlays. A fantastic looking model that was only in production for 4 years before being replaced by the slightly lower spec ES-125 TC/TDC.

The trapeze tailpiece design on the 225 ensures very good string to body contact versus a floating bridge, so you get a lot of resonance and sustain. It also helps a little with feedback at higher volume. The single pickup sounds excellent, placed in the middle between what would be the neck and bridge positions. This gives it a different tonal quality versus the TD model.

It's hard to imagine a cleaner example than this. Resplendent in its original, vibrant sunburst finish, apart from some welding to the tailpiece bracket (these often break) and some tarnishing to the lacquer on the back it is in excellent condition having clearly been well looked after over the years. Comes complete with original croc case.
