1958 Gretsch Duo Jet + OHSC

Description

Introduced in 1953 in response to Gibson’s Les Paul and the rampant success of Leo Fender’s Telecaster, the Duo Jet was Gretsch’s first foray into the solid body market. Chambered with a glued on arch top, the Duo Jet was lighter than the Les Paul whilst retaining the sleek solid body stylings. Introduced with Dynasonic pickups, the Filtertron upped the ante making this a viable burst killer.

The guitar is in excellent condition. There are a few minor knocks and scratches but the body doesn’t show its 60+ years. The finish There are no signs of any repairs.

The neck too is a joy with no sign of any resets or repairs. The only damage to the binding is on the neck heel. Elsewhere the binding is free of any damage. The ebony fretboard and original frets are in great shape.

There are little signs of use on the hardware, no sign of damage or pitting. The plastics too are in good shape though there is a little cracking to the pickup surrounds.

Electrically everything is correct. The only change is that the capacitors on the tone switch have been changed for some more usable values by the previous owner. The original capacitors are in the case and can be reinstated. The original and desirable Patent Applied For Filtertrons do not seem to have been disturbed and sound lovely, quintessentially Gretsch.

The guitar comes with its correct Gretsch hardshell case.

The lightweight chambered body is resonant and married to a pair of responsive Filtertron pickups makes for a potent package. The guitar is a joy to play with so many tones available. A real alternative to the Les Paul.

Sometimes a Gretsch is all you need. Grab this one before it gets away..
