This is a totally stunning, beautiful 1951 Gibson ES-300 sporting a pair of original and powerful P-90s, original wiring with master tone control and a stunning sunburst finish over the subtly flamed maple top. Everything is original on this guitar and it even includes a pic of the original owner when he was in his youth. In fact we bought it from a dealer who bought the guitar from the original owners family.
As you can see from the pictures, this guitar has lead quite charmed life with some nice checking but little if any real chips, dinks or dents anywhere. The finish is still very vibrant and it looks gorgeous in real life - we do not think anyone would be disappointed by this lovely 69 year old guitar.
The original frets are in great condition, probably due to a life of flat wounds and the action is nice and low. It is a real joy to play.
All the hardware is in excellent shape as are the plastics which is not always the case with these. The original tall, translucent knobs are also in remarkable shape for their age.
The guitar comes with a fantastic Lifton hardshell case with green lining tha is totally correct for 1951. A couple of the feet are missing but one is included in the case pocket.
Chuck Berry in a box, this guitar just oozes those rock ‘n roll tones with a bark that is so typical of these P90 loaded archtop guitars. This guitar is a whole lot of fun to play.
Gret for anything from Jazz to roots rock, the guitar is the touchstone for those tones. Don’t struggle trying to emulate it, get the real thing...
