West, Ralphs, Westerberg tone for a fraction of the price, look on further......
Sorry, this item was sold out.
Looking for a mid-50’s Les Paul Junior for a fraction of the price? Want the tone but don’t mind the details? Then look no further than this early 1956 Gibson Les Paul Jr.
‘Vibey’ is how we’d describe this one. The body itself has quite a few dings and bumps with some very cool buckle rash on the back. The neck has worn nicely and is very comfortable chunky C. The guitar has the feel of a well used tool, broken in comfortably by years of use with the scars to prove it.
Those years of use surely prove this guitar has seen some life and with life comes ups and downs. The headstock has been broken at some stage, the break has been well repaired and is solid. The neck has also had a re-fret along with a new inlay at the 7th fret. The bridge post on the bass side has been replaced at some point, possibly to correct a lean which was a common issue with this model until later on in 1956. This is solid and makes the intonation way better than a leaning bridge post!
Aside from the repairs we have a quite a few parts that have been replaced on its journey. The tone control has been replaced more recently with a newer CTS pot. The tailpiece is a modern Gibson Historic reproduction as is the stud on the bass side. The tuners are Kluson-style reproductions and the knobs too are reproductions. Not all guitars are lucky enough to make it though 60+ years without some need for replacing parts.
These factors aside, the guitar still has its all original finish with no touch ups or overspray, correct P90, volume pot and harness which is such a key to that classic 50’s junior tone. This coupled with the comfortably worn neck is just a killer combination by anyones standard.
Acoustically, the guitar certainly rings, the aged mahogany of the body ands neck resonating beautifully. Once plugged in the guitar doesn’t fail to disappoint with a wide range of tones at the turn of a dial (or two!) which is what you’d expect from these great guitars.
If you’ve been hankering after the tone of one of these fantastic guitars and don’t mind a checkered past then this is definitely for you. Oh yes did we say it sounds great… Yes it sure does - come down and give it a listen…
