Fancy a genuine Gibson NAMM show guitar from 2020...? This beautiful non reverse Firebird is truly stunning and will make you stand out from the rest of the crowd...
This product is currently on hold.
Forming part of Gibson’s display at the 2020 Summer NAMM show, this Non-reverse Firebird was part a stunning wall of ultra-limited 60’s custom colour guitars, later reviewed by Guitar magazine on October of the same year (a copy of which is included with the sale).
Introduced in 1965, this second incarnation of the Firebird was designed to be easier to manufacture and transport whilst also appeasing Fender, who had taken umbrage to the new offset waist design. Manufactured between 1965 and 1970, it came in 4 varieties, each fitted with a vibrola tailpiece and either P90 or the new minihumbucker pickup. These themselves where a departure from the standard humbucker design with each coil being wound directly over the magnet, derived from the Epiphone design, and fitted with a ferrous reflector plate.
The guitar is all mahogany construction, utilising hide glue in a further move towards more traditional methods. Indian Rosewood fretboard and aged nickel hardware finish the whole thing off wonderfully.
Though referred to as ‘poly’, this does not to indicated a polyurethane based paint but is in fact a term used in the 60’s to refer to a metallic finish. As such, this is a VOS nitrocellusole finish, both colour and clear coat.
The guitar is equipped with a pair of Gibson’s Alnico V mini humbuckers.
It is near mint having only lightly been used. As it was destined to be a showpiece at a major exhibition it was, and still is, set up to perfection and plays wonderfully.
The guitar comes with a Gibson Custom Shop fitted hardshell case.
