A 2011 Gibson Custom Shop Hot Mod Les Paul that has been uniquely Hot Rodded by PGV...
This product is currently on hold.
This is something quite special and is not something we see every day here at ATB Guitars. We do not usually do any Custom Shop stuff but when a good customer of ours wanted to p/x this very special LP 55 we just couldn’t resist…
This started life in the Nashville factory in 2011 as a VOS R5. It was then sent (in house) to the Gibson Customisation shop to turn it in to what is supposed to be a 55 Burst conversion. This is something Gibson used to do (a long time ago!) to owners of a 1955 Les Paul Goldtop who wanted the latest humbucker type pickups.
Much like todays conversion people, they would strip off the gold top to often reveal a slightly off centre maple top and if you really struck gold (pun intended) you got a bit of flame and a not so off centre top, just like this one is. We think they only made this model in 2010 and 2011 and it was a bit of a limited run.
However… that is just the beginning of the story of this guitar… this particular example was sent to the genius that is Yuuki McClure of PGV (Player Grade Vintage) for an extensive makeover. The work that Yuuki did included:
Refin in authentic amber sunburst using authentic type nitro and lightly aged
Replacement of all fingerboard inlays with more authentic, celluloid material
Replacement of Gibson Logo with era correct font and style
Replacement of tuners with original PAT PEND Grovers
Re-stamp original serial number with authentic type font
Re-shape neck near the nut for very slight V feel
In addition to this there is a Whizz pickup in the neck, the bridge is stock and this actually is a killer combination. The tailpiece has been replaced with one of the more modern, compensated types for better intonation which we believe is a Faber. All parts that were on the guitar originally are in a bag inside the case pocket apart from the neck humbucker.
Included is also all the original paperwork and COA from when it left Gibson in 2011.
Included are some pics taken in natural sunlight that show up the flame a bit better.
It plays well and It really does sound very nice - if you have a glance at our video you will see that this is indeed the case. It feels nice, in fact it feels like a ‘55 with a good chunky neck and after the extensive PGV makeover, it is probably the finest example you will find on the planet…
