If you're after a super cool and rare Les Paul, with a bit of an alternative mojo to it, this could be your guitar...

First one of these we’ve seen at ATB for quite a while, and boy is it a cool hunk of Les Paul shaped awesomeness…
The Les Paul Artisan was a more expensive/elaborate variation of the Les Paul Custom and was advertised as a limited-edition model between 1976 and 1982. It’s immediately discernable, with its unique pre-war headstock design, heart-and-floral pearl inlays adorning the ebony fretboard, triple-gold-plated humbuckers, a walnut-finished carved-maple top (ebony and tobacco-sunburst finishes were also available), and a multi-bound top, back, and headstock. Originally it was released with a standard Gibson style stop bar, but at some point in between then and ‘79 they switched over to the more complex stop piece we see here with the micro-adjustable tuners.
Overall condition is excellent, with the usual minor dings we all expect to see on an instrument that’s been played. The worst bit is some buckle rash on the back and the usual wear on the gold plating. As we’ve become accustomed to seeing on guitars with gold plated hardware, the thin layer of gold has partially worn away to reveal the nickel underneath.
The three piece mahogany neck has a nice Medium C profile and the original frets are in good condition.
Electrics too are all original, all intact solder joints and are effectively shielded but the addition of a solid metal case in the control cavity, very cool! All three tar-back humbuckers work great and are nicely balanced.
Sound-wise we are squarely in Les Paul territory here, with thick and heavy Humbucker tones readily available. While it might be no good for your back, you can’t refute the evidence that heavy guitars do have a a habit of sounding pretty great…
The guitar comes with is original type 1 “Protector” hardshell case, more commonly known as the chainsaw case which has all three latches working and not broken off, this is rare to see on these cases.
