Have you got the funk? If you feel this is lacking in your life then this 1974 original JB may help your predicament. In fact we hear Parliament are debating this right now....
Olympic White Fender Jazz Bass from 1974? Read on
This bass surely possesses the ‘funk’(we make no excuses for this statement). The look of this bass is so evocative of the period, putting you in mind of players such as Larry Graham or Bootsy Collins. Combining a custom colour with the binding, block inlays and matching headstock really works and makes for an eye-catching package.
The colour has changed somewhat, the white mellowing over time as the clear coat has yellowed. This is especially evident where the finish has worn in places around the body and at the back where there is some substantial bucklerash. On a whole the bass has been well cared for.
The back the stunning maple neck is wear free due, in no small part, to the polyester finish and shows no signs of use. It feels very comfortable to play, the fretboard being in wonderful shape and the frets have plenty of life left in them.
The pick guard, knobs and pickup covers is in great shape as are the hardware. The electronics are all correct for the period, including 1974 pots and plastic wiring. The grey bottom pickups are both nicely balanced that both sound exactly as you would expect the coolest JB from this period to sound.
The bass comes with a correct black tolex hardshell case.
This instrument is a pleasure to play. Plugged in there is all those touch points we’ve come to look for in a good jazz bass smooth neck pickup that’s not too woolly whilst the neck pickup just growls. Combining the two brings a wide palette of tones.
If you’re looking for that custom colour bass to set off the collection, this surely is the one for you. You won’t even need the wide lapels and flared suit pants…..
