Excellent Candy Apple Red Tele with a maple neck, what more do you need....

Nothing says ‘look at me’ more than a custom colour Fender. Hows about this stunning Candy Apple Red Telecaster from 1969?

Joe Bailon, an famous car customiser who worked on cars for Zsa Zsa Gabor and Dean Martin and is and inductee in the National Rod & Custom Museum Hall of Fame, is first credits with creating Candy Apple Red in the early 50s. It was popular with hot-rodders for its deep colour and the way the metallic paint layer reflected the light. It first appeared on the Fender colour charts in 1963 and it quickly became one of their most popular colour choices.

What is there not to like about this guitar? Candy apple is this writers favourite shade of red and it has to be said that it looks stunning on this guitar. There are a few dings but nothing that really detracts from how the guitar looks. The back shows a little wear at the edges but again this isn’t immediately noticeable.

The one piece maple neck is equally as fine, very little signs of use and the original frets are in great condition. The hardware shows some signs of use. As you can see the ashtray has some scratches on it though the other pieces are free of any real discolouration or corrosion.

Electronically, all solder joints are undisturbed. Pots are dated at 1966 which is quite common sight amongst late 60s telecasters.

The guitar comes with a correct black Tolex hardshell case

Not only does this guitar look stunning, it sounds it too. The one piece maple neck feels very comfortable and gives the guitar that fats attack thats indicative of the telecaster sound. Combined with grey bottom pickups, this guitar really delivers a sizzling twang-fest that mellows out nicely with the neck pickup.

Looks to die for and a sound to match. If you’re looking to putt twang into your life then this might be the guitar for you.
