1966 Fender Telecaster in Candy Apple Red just itching to get out there and rock out!

Ash body is in good shape without any new routing. The refinish has been well done and is thin. Care has been taken not to fill the cavities with paint and you can still see the subtle origins of its original blonde finish. There is some nice subtle checking which looks to have happened as the finish has aged.

The back of the neck has also been refinished. Black light does reveal the slightest hint of the original finish around the heel. The headstock looks to still have some of the original finish but the logo has been repaired with the F and E of Fender being younger than the rest of the logo. The fretboard is in good shape and the new frets have been well installed.

The hardware is in good shape. The bridge plate shows a little sign of corrosion but nothing too serious. The threaded saddles are original but have been converted to allen adjustment screws. The control plate is in good shape as are the knobs.

Electronically there has been some work to make the wiring like a modern Tele without the woof tone on the bridge pickup and a correct grey bottom bridge pickup was installed in the guitar. Switch is the unusual style that you only see during this 66-68 period. The pots are correct, both dated at week 17 1966. The capacitor too is correct ceramic type. The solder joints seem to be correct between the pots.

This guitar sounds great. The combination of ash and the grey bottom pickup makes this quite a twangy guitar with the combined position and then the neck calming things down gradually but brining their own voices to the mix. The neck is comfortable and the new frets makes this a wonderful guitar to make music with.

If you’ve got a hankering for a mid-60s telecaster but haven’t managed to find the funds then surely this is the guitar for you. The finish is first rate and it plays like a dream. Don’t let it get away.
