If you are looking for a 60's Custom Colour Tele with bags and bags of character then this surely should be pretty high up on your short list...

This product is currently on hold.

Maple cap, 60’s custom colour Telecaster, what more do you need? Its a 1966 Fender Telecaster in Candy Apple Red. This particular guitar has rapidly become the new store favourite here at ATB Guitars…

This guitar is certainly no shrinking violet. The finish is exquisite and will stand out in any collection. Its certainly seen some life, the forearm wear exposing the intriguing layers of Candy Apple red. Close examination reveals that this guitar was repainted at the factory a few times until they were happy with the result. Aside from these patches of wear the finish is in nice condition and it oozes character all over.

The maple cap neck (available as an option from early 1965 and not part of normal production until 1967) has been re-fretted with large frets but is otherwise correct, including the Transisional logo and the original double line tuners.

The electronics are correct though the switch has been wired to post 1967 configuration so that there is no capacitor in line with the neck pickup when this is selected by itself. The chrome parts are in good shape and although having a period look, have remained free of any major corrosion, a common sight with telecasters of any age. There are two small screw holes just by the jack socket (see pics) We have no idea why they are there and no attempt has been made to cover them up.

The guitar comes with a correct Fender black tolex case.

Sonically, this guitar has a superbly ‘spanky’ quality with plenty of bite from the bridge pickup as you’d expect. The 250k pots help round the sound a little, a feature that is much appreciated when compared to telecasters form later on. The neck pickup is a perfect foil bringing a warmth to proceedings. The maple neck is comfortable to play and the finish has been sufficiently worn to provide a compliant playing surface.

Custom colour Fenders are always a welcome sight here at ATB Guitars and this 1966 Telecaster with its many layers of paint is a stunning example with a great tone to match. Grab it before it gets away!
