One previous owner, rare, original fiesta red Jazz Bass with such a cool history...
If you want to make a splash, surely its with a 1966 Fiesta Red Fender Jazz Bass?
One owner from new, this bass has cruised the oceans in the hands of an Italian musician aboard countless voyages and whoever buys this will be only its second owner.
The is bass has definitely not lived under the bed. All over there are signs of used, though its not been abused. There is checking and honest playing wear all over (see pictures). The top has worn between the covers where you’d expect from being played and there are marks around the edge. Having said that the colour it still strong, the clear coat having yellowed a little giving it a bit of a more orange hue. Note worthy is the presence of other colours underneath the fiesta red. On close inspection there is evidence of Olympic White and what we believe to be Firemist Gold. Evidently the printshop were busy with this one. This was common practice at Fender as instruments were often repainted depending on demand before being shipped.
The note worthy feature of this bass is that the combination of binding, dot markers and ‘Lollypop’ tuners was only seen on Jazz basses for a few months between 1965 and 1966. The neck date of this bass indicates it was made in March of 1966 and is a classic version of this bass.
The neck has a worn comfortable sheen along its length. Again there are not dinks just wear to the the lacquer. The frets have plenty of life left. The headstock shows a few signs of wear but hr colour here is strong too as is the decal. . The hardware is in good condition with only a little corrosion evident on the bridge cover.
Plastics are in good shape with little or no shrinkage to the guard. Electronically everything is correct and all solder joints look untouched.
The bass comes with its correct Fender labelled Polverini plastic hardshell case which is also in very nice condition.
Sonically this bass is fantastic. The neck pickup has so much body never gets too muddy whilst the bridge cuts through with that all important JB growl. Together the tone takes on a little more of a scooped feel that brings out a more mellow side to the bass.
A unique piece of Fender history that has steered clear of the modders and looks killer to boot. What are you waiting for?
