Really nice body and headstock face refin Jag in the coolest custom colour around. A very nice and affordable guitar...

No guitars seem better suited and designed so perfectly for the custom colours than the Fender Jaguar. A case in point is this 1966 Fender Jaguar in Sonic Blue.
Identified in the 1960 Fender catalogue as Duco shade number 2295, a shade synonymous with the Cadillac from 1956, Sonic Blue is surely one of those instantly recognisable Fender shades.
The refinish on this guitar has been well done though evidence of the original Lake Placid Blue can still be seen on close inspection. The headstock was also refinished to match with the rest of the neck left untouched. There is the expected checking, whether due to environmental circumstances in the guitars past, or by artificial means, it looks good.
The neck is worn comfortably on the back and the binding is in good shape. The guitar has recently been re-fretted with correct fretwork and the fretboard is in fantastic condition. The bridge has been replaced but this seems to be common amongst some Jag fans.
The hardware and plastics are in good shape with the pickguard the only casualty of time as is evident by the crack near the selector switch. The bridge has been replaced with a mustang version, a common modification.
The electronics are all correct with only a few solder joints being disturbed during the refinish.
The guitar comes with an original and possibly correct blonde tolex hardshell case. Although generally only seen on Teles and Strats during 1963 and early ‘64 we have seen a lot of Jaguars and Jazzmasters with these cases right up to early 1966.
Unplugged there is brightness to the tone which sits well with an amplied sound that makes full use of the various tone-shaping elements present on the guitar. The rhythm circuit has just the right amount of darkness with a tone control that doesn’t suck away all the presence from the signal and in fact gives you a very useful ‘wah half-cocked’ tone when turned all the way down. Once we switch into the lead circuit we find all the usual tonal markers, warm neck pickup, sweet combined sound and bite from the bridge. Whats more you have the vibrato arm which is the icing on any offset cake!
Custom colours really show off the best aspects of any Fender guitar but it can certainly be said that the Jaguar’s combination of vibrant colour and chrome really makes for an iconic package. This guitar has been through a lot but has retained that stunning look. Grab it before it gets away.
