Rare, early 1966 Pelham Blue (green) SG Junior, break free and plays like a demon...
Beautiful Pelham Blue Gibson SG Junior from early 1966.
Very nice finish with relatively few dings and though it has faded somewhat, it hasn’t greened as much as some we have seen. The blue is very evident where the finish has worn or where the clear coat has chipped. It has the classic short Vibrola fitted, the chrome hardware having survived remarkably well.
The headstock shows signs of having had Schaller tuners fitted at some stage though correct Kluson Double line tuners have now been fitted. Apart from this there are no signs of breaks or repairs either on the headstock join or on the neck/body join.
What is also nice about this one is it has the 42mm nut width married to a nice feeling neck with a pleasing fullness. A few months later, these guitars would have a slightly narrower nut width as Gibson started on their slim taper era. The frets (it has had a most excellent refret) are in excellent shape and the guitar plays real well all up and down the neck with a good action and a superb sounding vintage P-90 pickup.
It looks like at some stage an extra ground wire was added on the tone pot which has now been removed. This was not uncommon in the 70’s and 80’s as older stage lighting systems were notoriously bad news for single coil pickups. Thankfully today that is not the case.
Single, original P-90 is very strong and powerful giving the guitar a wonderfully articulate voice.
Correct soft shell case, like the rest of the guitar is in excellent condition and is very clean with the silver Gibson logo all intact on the outside.
Have a look at the pictures, I think you will agree it is a lovely example of a very cool and rare guitar…
